Belgium has cultivated one of the most formidable football teams in the world and this consistent ability to nurture top-tier athletes and competitive teams highlights the effectiveness of its sports infrastructure, positioning the country as a frontrunner in innovation within the sports sector.
SportsTech Belgium has been a key player, established in 2021 as an innovation hub where startups, industry professionals and investors converge to shape the future of Belgium's sports industry, address the unique challenges faced by sports organizations and identify the specific needs of the industry.
As part of the England-Belgium match, a two-day mission to London took place, bringing together the innovative minds from Belgium's sports and technological sectors with their counterparts in the UK to foster collaboration and strategic partnerships.
The mission began on the 26th of March, with an event held at the Residence of the Belgian Ambassador, Bruno van der Pluijm. The first-class programme, put together by Agoria Sports & Technology Club and Hub Brussels, included meetings with prominent figures from the British soccer world, and featured a presentation on the UEFA EURO 2028 UK-Ireland team.
The event came to a close with participants attending the England vs Belgium football match at Wembley Stadium.
The second day included visits of Lord’ s Cricket Ground London, also known as Home of Cricket and home to the world's oldest sporting museum, and the innovation and technology campus Here East at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, along with the Loughborough University London campus where students can learn from the most influential thought leaders, pioneering researchers and creative innovators in the Sports Tech industry.
This initiative, spearheaded by SportsTech Belgium and supported by WBI and AWEX, in collaboration with Agoria, the Belgian Embassy, Hub Brussels, and FIT.
We're excited to have taken part of this prestigious event and look forward to the opportunities it presents for furthering innovation and partnership between our two nations.
