The Belgian Ambassador's residence of Belgium was the enchanting setting for the inaugural edition of the Meetings of the Belgian scientific diaspora in United Kingdom, on Thursday 25 January 2024. Hosted with elegance and warmth, the event brought together a distinguished group, including the General Secretary of the FNRS, Professor Véronique Halloin, and a delegation of prominent Belgian and British researchers.

The evening focused on critical themes, including advancements in green energy, progress in cancer treatment, and addressing new global challenges. In her inaugural speach, Professor Véronique Halloin emphasized the pivotal role that collaborative links between nations play in tackling these complex issues.

Dr. Gregory Absilis, Science Policy Officer International Affairs at FWO, presented opportunities for research collaboration between the UK and Flanders. Additionally, Javier Pardo Diaz delved into the details of "CONNECTS-UK: CONNecting European Communities Through Science in the UK," underscoring the importance of such initiatives in fostering international scientific networks.

This event stands as a testament to the commitment of the Belgian diplomatic mission and scientific community in the UK to collaborate, innovate, and pave the way for a future of shared knowledge and advancements.

This event was hosted by Belgian Ambassador Bruno van der Pluijm, Mr. Bart Brosius, General Representative of Flanders, and Mr. Motonobu Kasajima, General Representative of Wallonia-Brussels.
